Who is Joan Peters?

At the age of eight Joan Peters received her first set of pastel crayons and has been playing with images and colors on paper and canvas ever since. Visual arts is her lifelong passion. Not wanting to begin her adult life as a “ starving artist “ she incorporated her love for Interior Design and Fashion Design into a career. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with an emphasis on Interior Design at San Diego State University. Through her San Diego based Interior Design Firm she has been beautifying homes from bottom to top in cities such as San Diego, Los Angeles and Chicago. She appeared monthly on a design segment on KUSI Good Morning San Diego.

Joan wove her passion for painting in and out of her design business. Many of her paintings quickly became the “ center of attention “ focal points that hang on the walls in the homes of her clients.

Joan is now expanding her reach and her focus by offering her paintings to art lovers around the world. Her medium is oils and oils mixed with acrylics on canvas. Joan’s goal is to document what is good while creating windows of escape in this crazy world.

Artist Statement

To me life is a visual feast. I relish seeing not only the glorious ocean waves but the striking way the sun hits a blue trash can on the beach. Something unattractive and mundane can become beautiful by an artist’s hand. It’s a challenge. As I walk through this life I see everything as a potential creation of art waiting to happen and I long to be the artist. I feel fortunate for this. I thank God everyday for what I am able to see and for how I see it. I also thank God for every second I am able to record the world around me by using creating art.

Oil paints are my favorite mode of expression. Recently I have found the beauty in mixing acrylic paint and other mediums with the oil paint on canvas. Lead pencil drawings and watercolor pencil drawings are always near for exploring ideas or filling idle time.

To be surrounded by beautiful paintings in my home, my friend’s homes or public places is the ultimate luxury. I think of paintings as a wonderful way to escape to here or there. Paintings can act as windows of escape from a noisy and crazy world. They can make us feel like we are wrapped in a warm blanket. They can document what life we experience and allow us to save moments in time. My goal is to help others experience these things through my art.
